Onion Routing

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Onion routing is a technique for anonymous communication over a computer network. Messages are repeatedly encrypted and then sent through several network nodes called onion routers. Each onion router removes a layer of encryption to uncover routing instructions, and sends the message to the next router where this is repeated. This prevents these intermediary nodes from knowing the origin, destination, and contents of the message. Onion routing was developed by Michael G. Reed, Paul F. Syverson, and David M. Goldschlag, and patented by the United States Navy in US Patent No. 6266704 (1998). As of 2009[update], Tor is the predominant technology that employs onion routing.

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject English - Applied Geography, grade: 13, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen, language: English, abstract: This term paper will deal with the culture of Ireland referring to the idiosyncratic cultural norms of it. Since the relationship between the big topic and the space at my disposal can best be described as unproportional (to say the least), it will, in the end, remain but a very concise (and perforce, somewhat superficial) overlook rather than an in-depth study. One reason for the inadequacy lies in the fact that there are notable divides between the rural people and city dwellers, Catholics and Protestants, Norne Irons (Northern Irelanders) and Irelanders from the Republic, and the Irish-speaking people inside and outside the Gaeltacht (Gaelic speaking regions) and the English-speaking majority population. The culture of the Irish is, thus, far from being homogeneous. In order to meet the conditions of a description of the manifestations of Ireland's culture at different levels nonetheless, I used Geert Hofstede's 'onion diagram' (hence the title) as a guideline and worked through the layers from the outside to the core (cf. Hofstede 1991: 9). Thus, I will deal with Ireland's symbols first, move on to its heroes, describe some of the rituals, eventually shed some light at the cultural values and close with displaying some of the more common stereotypes.

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 1,5, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen (Anglistik), course: Intercultural Communication, language: English, abstract: At a first glance, Portugal and Brazil do not have much more in common than the language anymore. But you have to bear in mind that the two nations share a common past of more than 300 years, before Brazil declared its independence from Portugal in 1822. Apart from the indigenous indian tribes, it were the Portuguese who established a culture in Brazil. Nevertheless it is almost 200 years now that Brazil had time to develop its own culture. So what is the current Status Quo? It is not easy to answer that question. Of course there are a lot smart books concerning that matter, but in reality there are as many opinions as there are Portuguese and Brazilians. Originally my aim was to introduce the approaches of Geert Hofstede and Edward T. Hall but this would go beyond the scope of this term paper, so I decided to focus on Hofstede's concept of the 'Onion' (Hofstede and Hofstede 2005: 6 ff.). The literature I found was not much more than travel guides, so my statements are mainly based on personal experience and what I learned during my first year of studying. Of course the history plays an important role in building the culture of a nation, however historical facts are only mentioned if necessary for the reasoning.
